(Scores, Updates etc.)
You can participate in Mendel's Pontifex Olympics if you have the full version of Pontifex. Mendel's Pontifex Olympics are entirely unofficial, and not connected with ChronicLogic, the makers of Pontifex, nor the International Olympic Commitee, in any way.
Note: This is not a map pack because many levels cannot be completed!
These rules apply to all competitions unless stated otherwise.
(1) Budget is of no importance.
(2) You may edit the run-up by setting the width of the level.
(3) To help you overcome the no building close to ground restriction, you may lower any land. The train must not touch the land that you edited.
(3a) You must not build in the space where the land you lowered used to be.
(4) No anchors may be added, though you could delete some.
(5) Building space is limited at the left by the leftmost anchor, at the right by the rightmost anchor.
Objective: Build a ramp that will let the train jump as far as possible! Every cars/difficulty combination counts as its own category.
Scoring: Width is determined by the bin where your engine lands. Use Olymp01 for widths of 0m, 20m, 40m, 60m etc. Use Olymp02 for widths of 10m, 30m, 50m, etc. Each Cars / Difficulty combination is scored seperately.
Rules:
General rules apply. Violating (3a) and (5) is permitted for dirty entries.
File: Olymp03
Objective: Build a ramp that will let the train clear as high a bar as possible.
Scoring: The height of bar is your score. If the whole train clears the bar, the score is clean. If the engine clears the bar, it is dirty. Each Cars / Difficulty combination is scored seperately.
Rules:
General rules apply, with the following exception:
You need to edit the bar's height to raise your score. Make it as high as you can. Moving it to the right is also allowed.
File: Olymp04
Objective: Let your train dive most artistically.
Scoring: Scoring will be done by an as-yet-unnamed panel of judges. If you'd like to apply for the panel, let me know.
Rules:
Dirty: I can't imagine anything that should be disallowed; any editing is permissible.
Clean: General rules apply, with the exception of rule (5).
File: Olymp05
Objective: Toss that train as far as it will go; it must fall on the landing strip to score.
Scoring: The Z (forward/backward) distance that the train clears (no part inside) is your score. The blue line helps you determine this.
Rules:
The train moves a bit, then rests against the deck. Do not change the resting position of the train in any direction.
Clean: No level editing on this one.
Dirty: The resting position and the landing strip must stay, everything else may be edited.
File: Olymp06
Objective: Attach a hammer to the rotor using cable; spin the rotor to throw the hammer.
Scoring: Width counts. 0 is directly below the hub.
Rules:
General rules do not apply.
Clean: The rotor may not be edited. Arbitrary objects may be attached to the rotor at any joint using cable only. The object flying farthest is considered to be the hammer.
Dirty: The hub must stay in position, and the cable that holds the hammer must be attached no more than 80m from the hub (as it is in clean). However, any complex editing is allowed.
Please save each entry as a level file, with the number of cars set correctly. Choose a name that indicates your name and a running number, e.g. Johnny07.pxl . If don't, I will need to rename your level, and that means it may get lost.
Submitting multiple entries in one email is definitely encouraged. Attach the levels separately or zip them up. Along with the level(s), include the following info (text file, or in your email):
filename
competition
and class = number of cars/ difficulty / dirty or clean?
score
(if applicable)
comments, credits (important if you
based your submission on that of someone else)
Example:
Johnny07.pxl: Long
Sleep, 6 cars, easy, dirty, 345m, based on Rock's work. Needs TT.
Email your entries to olympics@mendelsohn.de . You will receive an automated reply. Additional questions (no submissions) should be directed to pontifex@mendelsohn.de .
Your scores will be checked using the current version of Pontifex . If you qualify for a record listing, I will publish your score and your level file here as soon as I find time. I may publish your level anyway if I find it interesting.
Have fun!
